Laundry sink + pump question

Postby karcirate » Thu Feb 25, 2010 7:25 pm

I have a laundry sink draining into a pump (7 feet away), and it seems like the pump does not pump continually, but turns on and off in bursts. The pump is vented properly, and the sink seems to empty quickly enough. When the washing machine drains, the sink fills up around halfway before it finishes, but then it drains fairly quickly after that.

It kinda sounds like the pump is pumping whatever flows into it almost immediately, and then it waits a few seconds for more water to flow in before restarting to pump.

Does this sound normal, or do I have a fauly pump, or a flow problem from sink to pump?

It sounds directly related to the settings of the float switch on the pump.
