push pull conversion to turn shower handle

We currently have Price Pfister shower where in order to turn the shower on or off, you have to first pull out the handle, then to adjust the temperature, you then turn that same handle. That shower is in the kids bathroom, and they have a hard time pushing and pulling the handle. We would like to change it out to a handle where all they have to do is turn it and the water comes on and they adjust the heat. The amount of water that comes out is not important to us because we have a low flow shower head already, so we always use full pressure anyways. We really don't want to have to knock out tiles to do this. Is it possible and if so, what exactly do we need? Thanks

Hey Mathdan, as I see it you have 2 choices

    1) You can replace the PricePfister cartridge that will make it easier to use

    2) You can change the shower valve which is in the wall. Best not to disturb
the tile if possible, whats on the other side of the shower valve wall? If its drywall you can cut it open to access the valve. You may want to have a pro do the work.depending on your level of experience.

    Hope this helps!

the other side is the backside of another backside of a different shower, so it is really not accessible from the backside. I think I will try and replace the cartridge. I can't find that Price Pfister cartridge, but a couple of places have an Avante cartridge which they say will fit. Any issues with that?

Avante is the model name made by PP. I believe its a black plastic cartridge, I haven't changed one for a while.

    Goodluck
