    toilet bubbling and overflowing

We have a two story house with a gravity septic system. All of the other drains in the house are working fine. However, when we use the shower, which is upstairs, the downstairs toilet bubbles and then overflows.

My husband has plunged the toilet many times and the water will eventually go down. But the next time we use the shower it happens again. If we haven't used the shower recently, the toilet flushes normally. What could be the problem and what should I do?

    Thank you.

Does this toilet bubble and overflow if you flush it 3 or 4 times in a row?

    Hi.
I just tried flushing it 5 times for good measure. It didn't bubble or overflow. The only problem I had was on the fourth flush the tank didn't start to fill up right away like usuall. But it did after maybe 30 seconds.

Also, for a long time (possibly since we bought the house) this toilet has not completely emptied the bowl unless you hold down the handle. I did not hold down the handle for this test.

    Any information is greatly appreciated.

O.K., good news that your toilet sounds like it working fine except for some minor adjustments that might be needed on the flush lever.

Now, try flushing some toilet paper down a couple times and see if that works. If that works without any stopages the only things I can think of is the shower drain in piped in wrong or your septic tank needs tobe pumped.

Try using approx 30 sheets of toilet paper and pour a 3-5 gallon pail of water and if it flows fine then like Bill suggested you need to ajust the height of the water in the tank and possibly a flapper ajustment
